Raised a (true) Southern Gentleman only to become a California Dude with locks made of rays of light, and a mind stimulated by literature and science, yet with fine artist sensibilities practically since he was in diapers. Apollo is a lover…of music, fashion, the culinary arts, technology, culture, and history. Not complicated but complex, not self obsorbed but observant, a serious man without taking himself too seriously. Apollo has particular tastes and interests without being “discriminating” or denying himself-self deluding. “Life is short, so play hard and play well, but play safe even while taking calculated risks. That’s the idea.” According to living “life like water”, the goal is to be in the moment yet archiving those moments simultaneously while living them. I never would have thought that I would have a brand much less be a “brand.” We are al brands in a way. A person’s word, integrity, honor, behavior, and carriage is that person’s brand. People tend to think of brand only in terms of commerce, trade, incorporation, or entertainment. Those are simple business manifestations of a brand. However, one’s brand is what others expect from the person in terms of presentation, conversation, and behavior. Brand is personal power and personal currency manifest.

A Vision

Fruition

We can never feel the joy and relief our parents feel or the way they would when they see us succeed, win, or overcome. We can only feel and understand it in our own way. When we trek out into the wide world we have a vague idea about concepts, and we have hope and energy, and even the drive to achieve. There are no certainties but we go forward anyway. When the day comes and we have achieved  and we become that  someone, we are then fulfilled and understand what our parents hoped for us.

A Voice

Aspiration

What we dream of as children is often forgotten in the ebb and flow of adulthood. But there are core things inside of us that drive us, sustain us, direct us, and propel us. Aspiration is desire for personal achievement of fulfilment irrespective of the material. It is a desire to make our mark, make our way, make our presence known, and our footprint evident and lasting. It is our inklings of the possibilities of ourselves writ large. Without aspiration we are as the hamster on the wheel.

Apollo has discovered 4 important things: The best balance and fulfillment one can have is to be of service and to seek to be of service to family, friends, community, country, and self; Having humility, developing humility if one doesn’t have it, and using it as the foundation for all one does is critical to one’s peace and well being; One must acknowledge and be rational about what cannot be done or changed while pursuing every positve action that can be done and pursuing every constructive change that can be made; We’re all in this together regardless of whether one knows or accepts that or one’s background, culture, history, gender, age, orientation, ability, or ethnicity.

Social Change

Many people don’t believe that they can make any difference in solving the many problems that affect us all. It seems so overwhelming. Where does one start. And its so difficult to navigate the obstacles. However, once one begins to invest in positive change, divest from all that acts against it, it becomes rewarding. Resolve comes, a sense of purpose develops, and sometimes even the gratification of actually experiencing quantifiable, meaningful results from even the smallest efforts. Stake your claim to the mutual benefit and collective destiny. Everyone must educate themselves as best they can about what’s happening, then ruminate on and ultimately participate in sustainable solutions…for the benefit of us all and for the future.

The Environment

Without a sustainable environment one cannot survive, much less have a life of quality. Worse still, poor stewards bring an imminent demise of a future and all the promise and potential that comes with that. We only have one planet and are running out of chances to heal and preserve it. Relocating in space is not the answer. Climate change is real and responsible for devastation and loss of life increasingly every year. We must all act together to change what harmful and destructive products we consume before we have no world to live in or on.

A Life of Service

The greatest gift a person can give to oneself is the understanding of togetherness and the individual consistent acts of kindness and humanity and the feeling that comes from that. While we pursue our individual pastimes, hobbies, interests, dreams, goals, and responsibilities we must also invest in, care about, and assist each other. There will be disagreements, moods, misunderstandings, stress, and bad days in life. None of these are legitimate reasons to not dedicate ourselves to contribute in whatever ways we can when we can to a life of service of and for each other. It makes for a better life and a better world… for all of us.

Faces, Hats, and Compartments

Every person is sort of complex. Different moods, thoughts, attitudes, experiences, backgrounds, dreams, hopes, desires, languages, abilities, cultures, and on and on… We have different presentations and wear different faces depending on the situation and circumstances. We wear different hats in our jobs, duties, responsibilities, and relationships which can be a challenge. Thus we must organized our lives into compartments just to maintain and manage. We must understand these comparts and which one we are in at any given time. This helps us to have balanced, enjoyable lives which enables us to participate and be and become agents of change. Making a difference means all the difference.

Musings

Too Much Information

Well… the basic idea of social media is based on the concept that people want to share, want to know, want to interact, and want to know what’s going on. People by nature are gregarious and want to be with, around, near, or in contact with other people. That’s why “malls” and other establishments and activities are so popular. I understand and appreciate this idea, but I’m cautious about how much I reveal, share, tell, and volunteer about myself. People are people, one never knows. So, I will continue to try to be part of the solutions instead of part of the noise and negativity out there. Yes, like others i’m curious, I want to see, hear, know, be informed, etc. But I prefer not to be shocked, apalled, traumatized… well, you get the picture. Get it? The pic(ture)? Anyway, a word to the wise… TMI is really a thing.

Who Cares?

What is network and cable news going to do. How will they survive. The current and upcoming generations are not interested and concerned with traditional methods of information delivery, and care even less about irrelevant information. There are multiple reasons for this and many who share some fault in the decline of news and information content and entertainment as we have known it. I would venture that even the number of people reading books is down. Students (and people in general) have been going the “Cliff Notes” route for years. Now, if it’s not coming through a device or headphones forget it. Even TV is not cutting it. What are folks who’ve depended on these revenue streams going to do. And for goodness sake look what happened to Yahoo. It’s now owned by a phone company. Now I have to find another primary email provider before they start listening in on my emails. Wait… no… Anyway, what could possibly be so interesting about emails. Who cares?

Rants!

You Think?

If anyone wonders now or at any point in the future why I don’t blog here about any “heavy subject matter, serious issues, or relevant topics of timely importance” (so to speak), that is because of two reasons: One sharing and writing in this manner is meditation and therapeutic as a respite and escape from the hassles and angst of modern life. Also, there’s enough of that stuff on the TV, radio, devices, and in our lives. I don’t need to pile on. Besides, theres plenty of fun, funny, thooughtful, thought provoking, entertaining, interesting, and intriguing topics of interest to engage in and discuss when we’re not watching the cat videos or that “other” content. So, why not discuss some other stuff. There’s a lot going on besides scandal, TV episodes, Comic Con, Keeping Up With the whoevers, etc. It’s a break from the usual and typical, the expected and suspected. So let’s not stir up the trolls too much or solicit too many insults or death threats beyond quota. Let’s chill from time to time and just leave the cat alone.

Rants!

Mantra: “One life, one chance, make it count”

You Think?

Art comes in many forms and there are as wide an array of perspectives and opinions about it as there are mediums and styles. It has been a blessing and a gift to me to have the minds eye that sees the things I see the way I see them, and the ability to interpret the inner vision(s) both visually and in written form. It would have been unfair had I also been blessed with musical ability as well. But I am not one to be greedy, but more of a humble disposition. I am thankful and grateful for the work that I have done and been able to do, at whatever level of quality therein, and for whatever constructive feelings my works can illicit and meaningful contemplation they inspire.
